Questions
The short answers about the dates, the recipes, your household and the price. Something missing? Write to hello@useitup.thetowers.ai.
Do I have to type in every expiry date?
No. Type "chicken thighs" or "bag of spinach" and UseItUp fills in a typical use-by date for the fridge or pantry, marked as an estimate. Change it with one tap if the package says otherwise.
Where do the recipes come from?
From an online recipe database, matched live to your list each day. We rank them by how many soon-to-expire foods they use and how few things you'd need to buy. Salt, pepper, oil and water never count as missing.
Each dinner links to the full recipe on the site it comes from. We keep only its name and link for your history, never a copy of the recipe.
Can my partner or roommates use it?
Yes. Invite them to your household at no extra cost; everyone adds and removes food on the same list, and everyone can get the email.
Are the dates safety advice?
No. They are typical quality estimates. Always check how the food looks and smells, and follow the package or USDA guidance for safety.
What does it cost?
$3.99 a month after a 7-day free trial. Cancel any time from your account page. The free week needs no card.
When does the email come?
At 4pm in your household's time zone, on days when something on your list goes off within 3 days. Nothing urgent, no email. You can switch it off for yourself in your kitchen.
What happens when I tap "I cooked this"?
The foods that dinner used come off your list, and they count on your monthly "food you used up" card. On the 1st of each month you get that card by email, ready to share.
Where do the use-by estimates come from?
From UseItUp's own table of typical shelf lives for common foods in the fridge, freezer and pantry. Foods it doesn't know get a short guess, which you can change.
Compared with recipe finders and expiry trackers
| What it does | Price | What it leaves to you | |
|---|---|---|---|

| Well Stockd | Web app: expiry-aware kitchen list matched to 3,800+ recipes | Free up to 30 foods; Pro $7.99/mo or $79/yr | Household sharing is Pro only; reminders are per item, not a daily dinner pick |
| KitchenPal | Phone app tracking pantry, fridge and freezer with expiry alerts | Free up to 100 items; Premium $3.99/mo or $14.99/yr | You still open the app and search for what to cook |
| SuperCook | Matches recipes to the ingredients you tick | Free | No expiry dates at all |
| Pantrifuge | Web expiry tracker with an email of items expiring in 3 days | Free to start; premium price not shown | The email lists items, not ready dinners |
| A list on the fridge | Whatever you write down, plus a web search | Free | Nobody looks at the list at 5pm, and the search doesn't know what goes off first |

Who it's for
Couples, families and roommates in the US who cook at home and keep finding the spinach after it's gone. In a University of Washington student survey, 63% said forgetting groceries they already bought stops them using them, and 73.1% wanted reminders to use groceries before they go bad. Well Stockd, citing the EPA's April 2025 estimate, puts wasted food at about $728 a person a year.
